Reflection
Through this course, I have been given the opportunity to write down and express my ideas freely. While many writing courses I have taken in the past mandate a strict prompt to follow, this course has permitted a more free selection. I have always been passionate about various thought experiments and philosophical ideas and arguments and this course has allowed for me to articulate those ideas more vividly and sanctioned for me to have more insight into such notions that strongly captivate me. This course has additionally tremendously improved my ability to write. One of the first improvements it has bestowed, is that it has taught me to first contemplate thoroughly what argument or concept I want to convey and how I want to articulate this idea and the most effective way to communicate it before I begin to write. This apprehended process has immensely helped me when I would, for varying reasoning, get writers block in previous writing assignments. The proposal argument essay was a milestone in my developing writing skills because it was the main assignment that truly allowed me to communicate ideas that I have long been passionate about. The essay functioned as an experiment in which I had for some time wanted to undertake which illustrated to me how well I would do upon formulating my ideas in real time. I certainly had my fair share of obstacles with the essay however. Like any of the other assignments I struggled with the common adversities writers frequently face when conveying their ideas. At times, I didn't know what details were most important to include to fit the proper length of any of the given assignments or how to articulate these details or general concepts I wanted to explain. Often I would personalize the approach to explaining the arguments that I would make, which in turn, would at times make it hard to locate a source that would audibly provide evidence or support for what I was advocating. One significant issue I have seen from reading my work personally and off of peer reviews was that many times my explanations were too abstract which would often result in the writing being too long and me not being able to include as much detail as I needed. Despite these complications, through reviewing my work personally and through my peers insight, I have learned to correct many of these mistakes and feel immensely more confident that I can utilize what I learned to refine and better my future writings.
